Modern Human - Issue 5
Letting Go of Who You Had to Be
Sometimes the hardest part of growing isn’t becoming something new.
It’s letting go of the identity that kept you safe.
The overachiever.
The people pleaser.
The one who held it all together.
The one who disappeared to keep the peace.
That version of you worked.
They protected you.
They helped you survive environments that weren’t safe, honest, or supportive.
But you don’t need to lead from that place anymore.
This is the grief of healing:
Saying thank you to who you had to be…
And allowing space for who you’re becoming.
Not stronger.
Just… more you.
